When picking a university, consider:

• Recognition: Is the degree recognized by Indian authorities (NMC / National Medical Commission), WHO, ECFMG etc.? If not, you may face problems later.

• Clinical exposure & hospital affiliations: Big universities in major cities tend to have large affiliated hospitals, better patient mix, more practical experience.

• Language: Even if instruction is in English, hospital rounds, patient communication may require local language (Russian, Kazakh, Georgian). See if the university offers language prep.

• City environment & safety: Cold climate (Russia), transport, cost of food, safety, cultural comfort etc.

• Support for foreign students: How good is hostel, how many seats are reserved, student services, visa/immigration help.

3. Eligibility & Recognition

• NEET: For Indian students, passing NEET is mandatory / essential for NMC recognition of overseas MBBS degrees. Even if the foreign university accepts you without NEET, to later practice or register in India you’ll need a degree from an institution recognized by NMC AND pass any equivalency exams.

• Academic Grade Requirements: Usually need 12th grade with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) with minimum % (often ~50% or more, may vary).

• Age, Passport Validity: Usually you must be at least 17 years by a certain date; passport valid for at least 1–2 years.

• Health / Medical Fitness: HIV/AIDS, TB, general medical certificate; sometimes specific tests.

4. Admission / Registration Process Step by Step

Here is a typical workflow (may vary slightly by university / country):

1. Shortlist Universities: Based on cost, recognition, medium, city, others.

2. Collect Documents (scanned and attested):

   • Passport copy (valid for required period)

   • 10th & 12th mark sheets / certificate (PCB); transcript if any

   • Birth certificate, passport-size photos

   • NEET score card (where required)

   • Medical fitness certificate, HIV test etc.

3. Apply to University: Via their website or via authorized agents. Submit application form + above documents. Some universities open admission windows in certain months (often around May–Aug or so).

4. Pay Application Fee (if any).

5. Receive Admission / Acceptance Confirmation: After university reviews your credentials.

6. Obtain Invitation / Admission Letter: University issues an “Invitation Letter” or “Visa Support Letter” (or both), confirming your admission and for visa purposes.

7. Visa Application: With invitation letter + other embassy/consulate requirements.

8. Travel & Arrival: Book flights, arrange pickup if offered etc.

9. Registration locally: On arrival, you may need to register with local immigration authorities, sometimes with police (especially in Russia). Also enroll at university, pay further semester fees etc.

5. Invitation Letter: How to Get It, Timeline, Cost

This is a critical document; visa depends on it.

• What is it: A formal document from the university (or sometimes from a national migration / immigration / foreign affairs office) confirming that you’ve been admitted and inviting you to study. It usually contains your name, passport number, course, duration, tuition etc.

• How to get it:

  1. After admission / acceptance confirmation from university.

  2. Submit additional required documents (passport copy, proof of academic qualification, payment of any fee / deposit or “invitation cost” etc.).

  3. University processes it, sometimes through a government body (e.g. in Russia the Federal Migration Service).

• Timeline:

  • In Russia many universities say it takes 35-45 days once required docs & payment are submitted. 

  • In Georgia it tends to be faster, sometimes a few weeks (depending on how complete your documentation is).

• Cost: May include “invitation fee” + courier charges. Example: a Russian State Medical  

• Courier of original letter: Embassies often require original invitation letter; so you may need it couriered to you overseas.

6. Visa & Travel Procedures

Once you have the invitation, here are visa & travel steps:

• Locate Russian / Georgian / Kazakhstan Embassy / Consulate in your country.

• Collect visa requirements: They usually include:

  • Application form (may be online)

  • Passport (valid for required period)

  • Invitation letter (original or attested/certified)

  • Admission confirmation / support from university

  • Medical certificate (HIV / TB etc.)

  • Passport-size photos

  • Proof of financial means (sometimes bank statements)

  • Visa processing fee

• Apply for student visa at the embassy/consulate. Sometimes appointment required; may need interview.

• Travel & Customs: Check baggage restrictions, what to carry (original documents, copies, bank statements etc.).

• Arrival & Registration:

  • On arrival, find how to register your residence (in Russia for example, foreign students must register with local migration authorities or police within a week.

7. Hostel & Living / Cost of Stay

• Hostel facilities: On-campus or university hostels are common. They may include basic furniture (bed, desk, wardrobe), shared bathrooms etc. Quality depends heavily on university, city. Sometimes hostel capacity is limited; applying early helps.

• Cost of hostel: In Georgia often ~
  In Russia or bigger cities, hostel or student dorm can cost more; private accommodation or shared apartments often cost significantly more.

• Living expenses: Food, transport, books, clothing. Depends on city. Major cities are costlier. Example Georgia: monthly for food + personal expenses 

• Total annual cost: Combine tuition + hostel + living + visa + travel + medical/formal fees etc. You may also factor semester deposits, orientation fees etc.

8. Things to Check / Avoid (Pitfalls & Advice)

• Confirm recognition: Make sure that the university is recognised by WHO, NMC, or whatever body governs medical licensing in your country. Otherwise you may face trouble returning to practice.

• Beware of fraudulent agents: Many students report agents who promise seats or admissions for fees but do not deliver. Always verify the university’s official website, contact them directly.

• Document attestation / legalization: Sometimes schools require that your 10th/12th certificate be notarized / apostilled / attested by Ministry of External Affairs in India. If not done properly it delays visa or admission.

• Passport validity: If your passport expires soon, it’s better to renew early. Some universities / visa offices require minimum validity of 1-2 years.

• Language issues: Even if lectures are in English, hospital rotations may involve interaction with patients who speak local language. Learning basics in Russian / Kazakh / Georgian is helpful.

• Financial planning for currency fluctuations: Tuition and hostel fees are often denominated in USD or local currency and can fluctuate. Plan buffer.

• Plan for travel & local adaptation: Cold winters, different food, healthcare etc. Understand health insurance, emergency support etc.
